Austan Goolsbee stepped down

Economist Austan Goolsbee, one of the sixth “guru of the future”, according to the Financial Times, stepped down from the Barack Obama’s team of advisors. The moment of this gesture is a very fragile one, when the America’s economy gives signs of weakness. According to an official statement of the White House Administration,  Austan Goolsbee wants to return at his professor career at the Chicago University. He will return on Chicago in time for the new school year. The gesture comes after an year since the naming of Goolsbee as chairman for White House Council of Economic Advisers and he is one of the most important economic figure from the Obama’s team. The one who will take its attribution will be Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

He will have the taught mission to advice President Obama what is the best solution is convincing the Americans about their plans to raise the economy in this hard moment. In the context of the next election,  Austan Goolsbee’s leaving might be seen as a vulnerability sign. According to the last polls, the people are skeptical about the White House’s program of the economy’s growth. Goolsbee is not only a very important official for the President’s team of economic advisers, but he was a very visible spokesman regarding the economic issues of the country. More, the primal fear of the people is the employment possibility. The working market has a very slow recovery in May, with 9.1 percent from 9 in April.

President Barack Obama said that Austan Goolsbee was an important factor in this hard economical moment and his advices were the ones that made possible this slow, but important recovery of the country’s economical situation. Goolsbee was a close advisor of Obama since 2004, when he was a part of the President’s team at the senate election. Later, in the 2008 presidential run, he was one of the best communicator of the President and his departure signifies clearly a loss for the Obama’s Administration. The Republicans are the ones that will take advantage of this departure, because the economic crisis is one of the Obama’s weaknesses, in the construction of the election campaign. With Goolsbee’s leaving, the analysts consider that the Republicans have already an important advantage. The spokesman Brendan Buck said that the gesture hides a clear weakness of the Obama’s program in growing the economic environment and more, the people will lose little by little their confidence in Obama after one of his best advisers is stepping down.
