Rafael Correa won the Ecuador referendum
The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, won the referendum and the reforms that he proposed were accepted by its people. He proposed a lot of reforms, from the judicial field to the economical one. At the referendum were asked ten questions that backed up Correa’s vision about reforming the country. The opposition voices thinks this result will only strengthened the President’s power. The primal results of the National Election Council shows that Coreea has a 51-56 percent confidence of the people and the 48 years old President consolidates its political position.

The man who run the country’s destiny since 2007 said in his first official statement that the result is an important step towards peace and democracy of Ecuador. He said that the country will define its identity and the people are the real winners of the referendum. Coreea responded at the opposition’s accusations, saying that Ecuador will take the measures of the reform in a democrat way and the totalitarian attitude that the opposition speaks about is only a false one because it implies force and this is not the case in a democratic country. More, he said that in the next year and a half he will have a difficult position in front of the country’s mafia, that has to be eradicated.
Coreea was accused of growing his influence on the judicial field, that will transform him in a totalitarian leader. According to the analysts opinion, Ecuador’s President has gained a great image capital by this results. More, they thinks that this day boost Coreea, as political leader. More, if the people confidence will remain the same, this is a possible confirmation of Coreea as a President at the next elections in 2013. This will be the third mandate for him ahead of the country. According to the two polls that showed his triumph, Coreea has maintained his popularity among the middle class and the pours. This might be the result from the high orientation of his electoral agenda on schools, hospitals and among workers.
The voters thinks that even though Coreea has more political power now, he will be able to raise the economy and improve the people’s life level. Other reforms that the President proposed the people includes the media control in witch he is in an open conflict. Not surprising, Hugo Chavez was the first international leader that congratulated Coreea for his victory. On an official statement on Twitter, Chavez named the President his brother and said this is a great victory for the people.
